Duke Ellington's 117th birthday was celebrated with a special film presentation and a concert by the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts (SDSCPA) Jazz Ensemble on Friday, April 29, 2016 at San Diego City College's Saville Theater. The event was a special celebration as it was a final performance by the SDSCPA Jazz Ensemble as they prepare to represent San Diego as 1 of only 15 ensembles in North America to compete in the Essentially Ellington competition in New York City, May 5-7, 2016.
