New music being added to the Jazz 88 Playlist Monday, November 21, 2011 and debuted Monday, 11/21/11 6-8 PM PT on The New Jazz Thing with Vince Outlaw: Luis Disla, Hal Galper Trio, Yoko Miwa, Michael Pedicin, Kate Reid, and Sunnie.

LUIS DISLA- �THE PROPHECY� (Contemporary Latin grooves, with some all-star
players, doing mostly originals).

HAL GALPER TRIO (FB) � �THE LIGHT FANTASTIC� (Typically edgy session from this
great pianist, mix of originals and standards. Not totally out, though).

Origin Records: From the startling and provocative rendition of opener "Alice in Wonderland," to a gorgeous take on "Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out To Dry," the legendary pianist continues the ceaseless development of his singular piano trio concept with his bandmates of six years, bassist Jeff Johnson, and drummer John Bishop. AllAboutJazz.com (Dan Bilawsky): Ballads...Searching For Peace is a respite from the adrenaline-fueled jazz that makes up such a large part of the market, but it's also a platform to present a tenor saxophone veteran that deserves wider recognition.

Songbook).

Girlsingers: And here it is again � this velvety, smoldering voice with the phrasing that takes all these ultra-familiar tunes down unfamiliar streets that would upset mama, if she knew.

SUNNIE (PAXSON) (FB)� �BOHEMIAN SUN� (Pianist, doing a collection of standards and originals,
produced by bassist Stanley Clarke, who plays on all the tracks).

Allmusic.com (William Ruhlmann): Although Sunnie Paxson has made one previous album as a leader, 2002's Groove Suite, she is known primarily for her performances in groups and as a studio musician. For much of her career, she has been a protégée of Stanley Clarke, and that association continues on her second solo album, 2011's Bohemian Sun, which is being released through Clarke's Roxboro Entertainment Group, and on which he serves as producer and executive producer, as well as playing bass throughout. That might suggest a smooth jazz outing in the manner of Groove Suite, but for the most part Bohemian Sun is a straight-ahead traditional jazz collection, albeit with a few variations.
