And it all gets unwrapped on The New Jazz Thing with Vince Outlaw, Monday, July 9, 2012 6-8 PM PT!
PATTY CARPENTER – “COME OVER” (Female vocalist, doing an eclectic mix of originals of
varying styles).
TERIVER CHEUNG – “MY NOCTURNE” (Young guitarist, leading a quartet, doing a straight-
ahead mix of originals with one standard).
DUKE ELLINGTON LEGACY – “SINGLE PETAL OF A ROSE” (All-star band, paying tribute
to The Duke, with his and Strayhorn’s originals, a couple of vocals).
CONNIE EVINGSON – “SWEET HAPPY LIFE” (Female vocalist, with a mix of straight-ahead
standards and Brazilian tunes).
GRANT GEISSMAN – “BOP! BANG! BOOM! (Guitarist, with an all-star lineup, doing a mix of
straight-ahead and contemporary grooves).
NATE JARRELL – “ENSEMBLE OFF N ON” (Local guitarist, leading a trio, with an edgy mix
of originals and covers).
MAHOGANY & STRYKER – “NEXT TIME YOU SEE ME” (Male vocalist, backed by an
organ trio, with soulful renditions of standards).
SARAH MAISEL – “IN THE MOMENT” (Female vocalist/ukulele player, doing nice versions
of standards, with a couple of originals).
VIRGINIA MAYHEW – “MARY LOU WILLIAMS: THE NEXT 100 YEARS” (Saxophonist,
leading a straight-ahead tribute to the great pianist).
TONY MESSINA – “PURE IMAGINATION” (Male vocalist, with a straight-ahead collection
of standards and originals).
STEPHANIE NAKASIAN – “SHOW ME THE WAY” (Female vocalist, singing the Great
American Songbook and some jazz tunes).
ARTURO O’FARRILL – “THE NOGUCHI SESSIONS” (Solo piano release, with a very
eclectic mix of tunes).
SPECTRUM ROAD – “SPECTRUM ROAD” (All-star quartet, paying tribute to Tony Williams.
Some very edgy guitar work by Vernon Reid).
TUMBAO BRAVO! – “CASA VERSAILLES” (Straight up Latin grooves, all band originals).
MANUEL VALERA – “NEW CUBAN EXPRESS” (Pianist, leading a sextet, with a set of Latin-
influenced straight-ahead Jazz).
MIGUEL ZENON/LAURENT COQ – “RAYUELA” (Grammy nominated sax player, paying
tribute to Argentine author Julio Cortazar. Latin influenced Jazz).
