Adding some New discs this week from some Old hands in the Jazz scene, including John Abercrombie, Marcus Miller, and Avery Sharpe, a double disc from trumpet searcher Christian Scott, the second New Brian Bromberg disc in 2 months, and lots more (complete list after the split)! Check out the debut of the New and more on The New Jazz Thing with Vince Outlaw, Monday, July 30, 2012, 6-8 PM PT!

Here's a taste of the "In The Spirit of Jobim" disc from bassist Brian Bromberg..

AHA! QUINTET – “FREESPACE” (Quintet, with two trio tracks, doing all straight-ahead
originals, except for one track).

JOHN ABERCROMBIE QUARTET – “WITHIN A SONG” (Relatively sedate set from 4
usually progressive musicians).

BRIAN BROMBERG – “IN THE SPIRIT OF JOBIM” (Bassist, backed by all-star lineup, paying
tribute to the Brazilian great).

CARLO COSTA-MINERVA – “SATURNISMO” (Drummer, leading an avant-garde trio, doing
all original material).

ALEKS GIRSHEVICH TRIO – “TOMORROW” (Child drummer, leading a trio, doing all
straight-ahead originals).

RICH HALLEY 4 – “BACK FROM BEYOND” (Progressive quartet, doing all original
material).

SUNNY KIM – “PAINTER’S EYE” (Korean female vocalist, with a different and, at times, edgy
recording of originals).

SANDRA MARLOWE – “TRUE BLUE” (Female vocalist, doing straight-ahead versions of
standards and jazz tunes).

MARCUS MILLER – “RENAISSANCE” (Bassist, doing a funky, contemporary recording of
originals and R&B tunes).

CHRISTIAN SCOTT – “CHRISTIAN ATUNDE ADJUAH” (2-disc set of mostly progressive
work).

AVERY SHARPE – “SOJOURNER TRUTH ‘…AINT I A WOMAN?’” (Bassist, leading a
mostly vocal set, with Jeri Brown, in a tribute to the Civil Rights icon).

DAVID SILLS / MICHAEL KANAN – “THE SWEETEST MELODY” (Saxophonist/flutist and
pianist, in a straight-ahead duet session of standards and one original).

REBECCA SULLIVAN – “THIS WAY, THIS TIME” (Female vocalist, with guitar
accompaniment, with obscure standards and others).

KEVIN TONEY 3 – “NEW AMERICAN SUITE” (Straight-ahead piano trio, doing straight-
ahead originals).

MICHAEL VLATKOVICH TRYYO – “PERSHING WOMAN” (Trombone-led pianoless trio,
doing all originals, recorded live).
