Here's the low down on the new Anat Cohen release "Claroscuro"..

MIKE BOGLE TRIO – “HIPNESS OASIS” (Pianist, with a straight-ahead mix of mostly originals, and he

does some singing, as well).

ED BYRNE’S LATIN JAZZ EVOLUTION – “CONQUISTADOR” (Straight-ahead Latin grooves,

performed by a large ensemble).

ANAT COHEN – “CLAROSCURO” (Multi-reed player, leading a variety of ensembles in an eclectic, but

straight-ahead, mix of styles).

DENA DeROSE – “TRAVELIN’ LIGHT” (Singer/pianist, recording live in a one-woman show of

standards).

ANNA ESTRADA – “VOLANDO” (Female vocalist, doing all Brazilian tunes).

DAVE GOLDBERG – “RANDOM OCCURRENCES” (Saxophonist, leading a quartet, in a collection of

straight-ahead standards and originals).

CHILLY GONZALES – “SOLO PIANO II” (Performing all originals).

FRED HESS BIG BAND – “SPEAK” (Saxophonist, leading a straight-ahead big band session of

originals).

BRAD MEHLDAU TRIO – “WHERE DO YOU START” (Another great trio recording of originals, old

and new standards, and more).

NEGRONI’S TRIO – “ON THE WAY” (Pianist, leading actually a variety of groups, in a straight-ahead

collection of mostly originals).

FERENC NEMETH – “TRIUMPH” (Drummer led quartet, with a variety of styles from straight-ahead, to

contemporary, to progressive).

RUSS NOLAN – “TELL ME” (Saxophonist, leading a straight-ahead collection of originals and new

standards).

MACEO PARKER – “SOUL CLASSICS” (Funk Master, recorded live with theWDR Big Band, singing

and playing his way through…well, hence the title).

PRESERVATION HALL JAZZ BAND – “ST.PETER & 57TH ST.” (New Orleand legends in a live

recording, with all vocal tracks).

IRENE REID – “THE QUEEN OF THE PARTY” (A greatest hits collection by the soulful singer).

WOODY SHAW – “WOODY PLAYS WOODY” (A greatest his collection, taken from his live

recordings).

ELIZABETH SHEPHERD – “REWIND” (Female vocalist, in a self-produced effort, doing mostly classics,

with overdubs on some tracks).

THE SKINNY – “DIG ON IT” (Funky, guitar/organ quartet, doing mostly originals).

LEE SMITH – “SITTIN’ ON A SECRET” (Christian McBride’s father [also a bassist], backed by an all-

star band, doing mostly originals).

LUCIANA SOUZA – “DUOS III” (Brazilian vocalist, accompanied by 3 different guitarists, on a

collection of Brazilian tunes).

RAY ZEPEDA – “STEP BY STEP” (Saxophonist, leading a quartet, in a collection of straight-ahead

standards and originals).
