Great list of NEW discs being added to the Jazz 88 Music Library this week along with some very cool links to videos featuring the music and artists courtesy of Chad Fox, host of Progressive Jazz on Monday's and Wednesdays @Jazz88. MARTIN BEJERANO – “POTENTIAL ENERGY” – {Figgland Records}

(Young pianist that stretches from Hiromi and Eldar to Robert Glasper.  This is his follow-up to Evolution/Revolution, which features a trio & quartet setting of mostly straight-ahead originals).


ORRIN EVANS – “…IT WAS BEAUTY” – {Criss Cross}

(Pianist, who was just named Top Composer of 2012 by the music publishing organization SESAC, with a mix of originals and tunes comprised from the American

Songbook).

STEVE GADD BAND – “GADDITUDE” – {BFM Jazz}

(Drummer with his tenth outing as leader backed by an all-star crew.  A grooving date of originals that is relaxed with touches of deep soul and unique takes on Keith Jarrett’s “Country” and the “Windup” and Radiohead’s “Scatterbrain”.

CHICK COREA – “THE VIGIL” – {Concord Jazz}

(Pianist and an ever-evolving collective featuring guest appearances by Stanley Clarke and Ravi Coltrane.  Album consists of upbeat tones, contemporary & metronomic grooves that coincide with ambitious mood pieces.  All original material).

HOT CLUB OF COWTOWN – RENDEZVOUS IN RHYTHM – {Gold Strike}

(An Austin trio that blends together Gypsy Jazz and Western Swing while mixing covers and originals.  A fourteen-track release that focuses on popular songs, show tunes and folk melodies that became standards in the 1930’s).

ROSCOE MITCHELL QUARTET – “LIVE AT “A SPACE” 1975” – {Delmark}

(Composer/multi-instrumentalist with a live session recorded in ’75 that captures the essence of the AACM scene.  Release is an adventurous date of all original material (many unissued) with a rich array of tones, textures, and sonic shapes).


FRANK ROSALY – “CICADA MUSIC” – {Delmark}

(Drummer, with an all-star Chicago collective.  Enlisting a team of local improvisers, this date features dynamic tunes that reflect the adventurous avant-garde spirit).


WARREN WOLF – “WOLFGANG” – {Mack Avenue}

(Vibraphonist leads a mixed quartet and submerges into blues/classical melodic compositions drawn by inspiration from Abbey Lincoln and Big Sur).


NATE WOOLEY – “(SIT IN) THE THRONE OF FRIENDSHIP” {Clean Feed}

(Trumpeter and his sextet; a brass band of sorts due to the unordinary instrumental set-up and configuration.  An all-original set of non-conformist music).
