Robert Dove Quartet - Thursday, July 7th

Saxophonist, bandleader, composer Robert Dove is one of the newer "young lions" to make San Diego his home, settling here in large part due to the thriving Jazz scene in America's Finest City. He explained as much in a fantastic 2014 San Diego Magazine article by Dave Good describing the hot San Diego Jazz scene and a life changing night when Dove played with Gilbert Castellanos on a visit to San Diego: "Dressed in a suit and tie, Dove explains why he chose San Diego over a more traditional jazz launch pad like the Big Apple. He says that nothing he ever experienced in New York even came close to the fire coming off the bandstand on that fateful night in North Park."

Here's a 2015 Jazz 88 Interview with Robert on the eve of the release of his debut CD "Paradigm Shift"...

Trio Gadjo - Thursday, August 11th

Uxorious, Bucolic, Avuncular, Garrulous = Trio Gadjo...at least according to the opening scroll of this San Diego Gypsy Jazz trio featuring Aaron Mahn guitar, Jason Durbin drums, and Jeremy Eikam bass and in their 7th year together. In a 2014 San Diego Troubadour profile, writer Tabitha Hernandez sums it up this way,

"Trio Gadjo is really just three good friends who have been around and share the same passion for music. They enjoy making a quality sound and sharing it with whomever is willing to listen, much like their fellow Gypsy musicians of the past just playing a sound they enjoy. "

Here's a Trio Gadjo 2011 performance of the Duke Ellington / Billy Strayhorn classic "It Don't Mean A Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)",
