Hey everyone, just wanted to let the Jazz 88.3 world know I'll be playing tunes on Monday night, November 11th at the Office in North Park for Dub Dynamite. Expect to hear lots of global bass, dub, reggae, roots and some cumbia in my DJ set, some of which you'd normally hear on One World. There's no cover! Hope to see some of y'all there!
Subsuelo, LA's immensely popular global bass DJ crew and live band that brings together flamenco, cumbia, hip-hop, tropical funk and Latin dance music are coming to San Diego this Friday, October 18th for a very special night. Resident selectors Gozar and Canyonazo provide the backbone of their sound while turntablist DJ Ethos and flamenco dancer La Tigresa showcase a blend of neo-baroque rhythms with an East LA vibe.
It's that time of the year where the best upcoming musicians and bands from the world's Latin music community converge on New York City for a handful of crazy musical days, otherwise known as the Latin Alternative Music Conference. I'll be in attendance this year and am stoked to get a heads up on who's gonna be hot in the coming months when it comes to Latin alternative music. Here's some acts that I look forward to checking out when I'm out there while trying not to melt from the heat.
Just wanted to let everyone know that One World under my hosting turns 2 today so I threw together a commemorative two-part mix to showcase a lot of favorites and what not. It's been a very crazy fun time and I'm glad to be able to share music from around this planet we call home every Wednesday night. As for the mix itself, I left out a lot of favorites and will upload the second part of the mix very soon. Mad love and thanks to everyone who's locked in over these past two years far and wide! (Tracklist posted after the jump!)
Just wanted to let those folks know who listen to Weekend Late Jazz that I'll be DJing at the Belly Up on Tuesday night, June 11 in support of JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound performing, all the way from Chicago. If you enjoy blues rock with touches of soul, then definitely come check out the show!
Here's a full performance of them playing live on KEXP in Seattle!
Last week on One World, I aired a special interview with Argentine-based ZZK Records label head El G aka Grant C. Dull. He'd been playing gigs in SF and LA and we were lucky enough to have him come through the Jazz 88.3 studios for a chat. The short 10 minute interviewed covered a little bit of everything regarding ZZK, their sound and what's to come in 2013 for them. It was definitely a cool interview! ZZK was kind enough to post the interview on their Soundcloud. (By the way: They posted the interview using my DJ alias!)
