Last week on One World, I aired a special interview with Argentine-based ZZK Records label head El G aka Grant C. Dull. He'd been playing gigs in SF and LA and we were lucky enough to have him come through the Jazz 88.3 studios for a chat. The short 10 minute interviewed covered a little bit of everything regarding ZZK, their sound and what's to come in 2013 for them. It was definitely a cool interview! ZZK was kind enough to post the interview on their Soundcloud. (By the way: They posted the interview using my DJ alias!)
There's been A TON of amazing music that's come out this past year from all over the world and I've been fortunate enough to share as much I could of it on One World. As 2012 comes to a close, I wanted to round out some of my favorite releases that I played a lot of as a result. This is in no particular order!
Nobody Can Live Forever: The Existential Soul of Tim Maia (Luaka Bop)
Hands down, one of the best compilations to come out from Luaka Bop. The Brazilian soul funk godfather Tim Maia finally gets recognized after being an underrated musical gem in the DJ world.
Just a heads up - I was invited by the hosts of the Monday night weekly, Dub Dynamite, to drop a guest DJ set this coming Monday, August 6th at The Office in North Park. I'll be going over all di musical place with lots of worldly dubs! My set is from 10 to 11pm!
So I'm still processing everything amazing that was the Latin Alternative Music Conference last week in New York. Still so much on my mind! When I last updated, I was across the street from the conference hotel at one of the busiest Starbucks I've ever been to. After quickly updating, I headed over to the Gramercy Theatre for one of the many prime LAMC showcases.
So I'm out here. NYC is incredible! LAMC is even more incredible! I don't know where to start since there's been so much going on. Last night, the conference started with a show at Mercury Lounge. While getting to the venue a little later than expected, I was able to catch the last three acts: Alex Anwandter, Monica Lionheart and La Santa Cecilia. Everyone got down last night.
