As I rush off to experience Day 4 of the Jazz Education Network 2014 Annual Conference, aka #JEN14, in Dallas, here's some of the highlights of Day 3, Friday, January 10, 2014, as shared during the day on TNJT Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, Storify-like. From orienting Jazz 88 to JEN through attending Committee meetings, to cruizing the squeeking and squaking of the Exhibit all, I took in panels, adjudicated student sessions, and full blown concerts in lobbies! The day was capped off my the moving awards ceremony at the LeJENds of Jazz Education Gala Fundraiser and an evening of concerts that will be remembered forever. I am totally impressed by the JEN Board, Committees, and Presentors, but also the many volunteers, students, and Jazz fans taking part in this very well run conference. On to Day 4!!
The full story is after the split, but here's a slideshow of some shots from the day and a sample of the evening ending performance by vocal ensemble Groove For Thought...Enjoy!
The Jazz Education Network Annual Conference shifted into high gear on Wednesday, January 9, 2014, with it's first full day of clinics, adjudicated student performances, panels, professional musician-educator concerts, keynotes, award presentations, and committee meetings, wrapping up with a wonderful evening of music from world-class student ensembles and professional musicians. There was evening the time-tested jam sessions for both students and professionals into the wee hours of the morning! Check out some of my goings on after the split, but here's a slideshow of pictures along with a video from the Cal State University Long Beach vocal ensemble Pacific Standard Time.
Jazz Education is the focus of the Jazz Education Network, but after arriving in Dallas and attending the opening day of the 5th JEN 2014 Annual Conference, hereafter known as JEN14, there is a whole lot more going on. The New Jazz Thing and San Diego's Jazz 88 is attending the conference to make some connections with this organization on a very similar mission to Jazz 88 and see how we can help them as they prepare for the 6th Annual Conference which will be help in our home port, San Diego (or as they jokingly pronounced it Ron Burgandy-style many times during the evening's performances "San Di-Ah-go"). Actually, the meat and potatoes of the event begins on Day 2 as clinics, presentations, committee meetings, and lots more student and professional musician performance really kick into gear. Day 1 was all about registering, introductions at the JEN Presidents Founders reception, and an evening of both formal and jam session music by very polished local Jazz ensembles.
Note: While I'm working out the kinks in posting to the Jazz 88 blog via mobile devices, you can follow along on Facebook with a 'Like' of The New Jazz Thing page http://Facebook.com/TheNewJazzThing, via TNJT Twitter at http://Twitter.com/TNJT, or follow the #JEN14 Hashtag on your favorite social media tracking app to hear the larger voice of the conference.
