The Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center is presenting "Fred Hersch: A Solo Piano Concert in Memory of Loraine Stern," Monday, April 13th at 7:30PM at the David and Dorothea Garfield Theatre. A select member of jazz’s piano pantheon, Fred Hersch is a pervasively influential creative force who has shaped the music’s course over more than three decades. A solo performance by Hersch is an elegant, pensive and playful invitation to explore the possibilities of both the instrument and the song. Tickets can be purchased here.

Jazz 88.3's 2019 Holiday Membership Drive was a big success! Thank you so much for your support. We welcomed many new and renewing members and the music will continue to thrive because of it. If you missed your chance to call during the drive you can still donate towards the campaign by clicking here. The 2019 Holiday Pledge drive will begin December 5th (and runs through the 12th) and we need your help. If you are a passionate Jazz88 listener sign up to become a volunteer and help us answer phones. You will meet all sorts of great people- jazz88 hosts, fellow listeners and members, and various business and restaurant owners. We have various shifts available that can fit your schedule. Our SOLD OUT Holiday Jazz Live is happening Monday, Monday, December 9th and it will feature vocalist James Tormé. He is the son of the late legend Mel Tormé and will be bringing a swinging band to the Saville stage. The evening will be billed as "Tormé for the Holidays." Please pick up your tickets no later than 7:30pm as they will be released to the public after that time. The show is SOLD OUT but unclaimed tickets can be picked up at 7:30pm the night of the show. Any questions about membership can be answered by the membership team or you can call Ken Borgers at 619-388-3301. As always, thanks to Big Front Door Sandwich Shop, located in University Heights (Park Blvd.). If you are going remember that good ole' parking pass!

This year we welcome Saxophonist Gene Cipriano. “Cip,” as he is affectionately called, is a legendary reedman and one of Hollywood’s most recorded musicians. In addition to his time with Sinatra, his impressive career includes recordings with Henry Mancini, Natalie Cole, Elvis Presley, Judy Garland, Rosemary Clooney, and Miles Davis.  YOU will have a chance to hear his stories (and ask questions) about the one and only, Frank Sinatra. Your $88.30 ticket to this KSDS fundraising event includes a three-course dinner for 2 at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Downtown San Diego (doors open at 6pm- dinner at 7pm) plus, you will receive a one-year Jazz 88 membership. Jazz Live will be taking a hiatus in November. There will be NO Jazz Live this month. However, we hope to see you for our Holiday Jazz Live on December 9th. Stay tuned for details in the coming weeks of who will be performing. 

Art Blakey Celebration and a Dual Film Presentation

Tune in ALL DAY TODAY, as we celebrate Art Blakey’s 100th birthday. KSDS is featuring Art Blakey and Jazz Messenger Alumni exclusively up until 6pm. Special giveaways, interviews and of course, music, relating to Art Blakey and his Messengers throughout the years will be played all day long. TONIGHT we have a live Blakey celebration at the Saville with a film showing at 730PM. The film will also celebrate 80 Years of Blue Note Records. The presentation will be given by Station Manager, Ken Poston and will feature rare film clips including Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, Horace Silver, Clifford Brown, Jimmy Smith, Stanley Turrentine, Sonny Rollins, Lee Morgan, Donald Byrd, Benny Golson, Cannonball Adderley, James Moody, J.J. Johnson and more. It is open to the public and NO parking permit is required (Lot 8). We will see there!
