Latin, Progressive, Straight Ahead, Steely Dan (!), and Music by San Diegan's (Dresser, Keezer) are all part of the New music being added to the Jazz 88 Music Library this week. The full list of the New This Week is available after the split, but here's a taste from the new Preservation Hall Jazz Band disc of all originals (first in their 50 year history) "That's It"...

BRIAN ANDRES AND THE AFRO-CUBAN JAZZ CARTEL – “SAN FRANCISCO” (Great Latin rhythms, mostly originals).

BILLY BANG – “DA BANG!” – (Violinist with his final studio recording in 2011 before passing away a few months later from cancer.  Session features a quintet playing a mix of originals and compositions by some of Bang’s favorite musicians).

RON BOUSTEAD – “MOSAIC” (Male vocalist, doing a mostly Latin-influenced set of a wide range of tunes).

MATTHIAS BUBLATH – “OCEANS” (Pianist, leading a quintet, doing all straight-ahead originals, except for two songs).

RYAN COHAN – “THE RIVER” (Pianist, leading a sextet, doing all straight-ahead originals, with a few solo interludes).

QUINCY DAVIS – “SONGS IN THE KEY OF Q” (Drummer, leading a quintet, doing all straight-ahead originals).

MARK DRESSER QUINTET – “NOURISHMENTS” (Creative bassist/composer & San Diegan, leads an exploratory ensemble of master improvisers featuring a collection of all originals).

JT AND FRIENDS – “FRESH SQUEEZED” (Pianist Jerry Tolson, leading a variety of ensembles, doing mostly straight-ahead originals).

GEOFFREY KEEZER – “HEART OF THE PIANO” (Local pianist, in a solo outing, doing originals, and old and new standards).

SHAN KENNER – “THE BEHAVIOR OF VIBRATION” (Guitarist, leading a quartet, in a straight-ahead collection of mostly originals).

TOM KENNEDY – “JUST PLAY” (Bassist, leading a variety of ensembles, in a collection of standards and jazz tunes).

MARK MASTERS ENSEMBLE – “EVERYTHING YOU DID” (Very jazz arrangements of the music of Steely Dan).

CHARNETT MOFFETT – “SPIRIT OF SOUND” (Bassist, leading a bass-heavy session of mostly originals, very edgy with vocals and spoken word tracks).

PRESERVATION HALL JAZZ BAND – “THAT’S IT!” (Mostly vocal recording by the New Orleans ensemble).

“JONATHAN SCALES FOURCHESTRA” (Contemporary, steel-pan grooves).

CHES SMITH AND THESE ARCHES – “HAMMERED” – (Drummer with a forward-thinking quintet that balances avant-garde jazz and experimental rock).

CHESTER THOMPSON TRIO – “APPROVED” (Drummer Chester Thompson, leading a piano trio in straight-ahead originals, standards, new standards and jazz tunes).
