Hour 1

0:01 AM Albert Collins “Tired Man” — Collins Mix: The Best Of

BREAK (After Tune 1): Hour 1 Intro, Blog Post and Social Media Promo

0:08 AM Bruce Barth “T Staff Flies Again” — Family Feeling

  • NEW RELEASE  “The stellar faculty at Temple University in Philadelphia, a city steeped in jazz history, play as a true family of educators dedicated to the art form on this album of songs composed/arranged by Bruce Barth.” https://familyfeeling.hearnow.com/

BREAK:

0:21 AM Doug Webb “Ah-Leu-Cha” — Fast Friends

  • NEW RELEASE / IN CONCERT “Since this recording emanates from California—Pasadena, to be exact—you might suppose the traditional West Coast Coolness. That's not what you get. Think Dexter Gordon, Wardell Gray, Buddy Collette, and Frank Morgan, all under the influence of Charlie Parker's 1947 California road trip as a reference for Webb's music.“ [Doug Webb: Fast Friends, Mark Corroto, AllAboutJazz.com]

BOTTOM OF THE HOUR ID: Doug Webb - Jazz Live San Diego 10/9/18!

0:28 AM Cecile McLorin Salvant “The Sweetest Sounds” — The Window

0:33 AM Aaron Parks “Nemesis” — Invisible Cinema

  • BIRTHDAY Sunday, October 7 - Aaron Parks [Piano] 10/07/1983 100 Seattle, WA

  • “Invisible Cinema is as fine a debut as one is likely to hear in 2008. It has plenty of sparks in its communication; it establishes the leader not only as an excellent soloist, but as a fine composer and arranger who understands his strengths as well as those of his bandmates. This is the sound of an improvising artist that has arrived fully formed.” [Invisible Cinema, AllMusic Review by Thom Jurek]

BREAK: San Diego Jazz and Blues Calendar Highlights for Wednesday, October 3 through Tuesday, October 9

  • NEW RELEASE ““Looking back, there was too much talk about how young I was, you know ‘the youngest cat to play the Village Vanguard’ instead what I brought to the music. One thing we all had in common was being dead serious about the music.”” [Dead serious about the music, Robert Bush, San Diego Reader]

BREAK (Before Last Tune of Hour): Coming Up In Hour 2, Blog and Social Media Promo

0:54 AM Keith Oxman “I Sold My Heart To The Junkman” — Glimpse

  • NEW RELEASE “Glimpses is a remarkable achievement, bringing together one saxophonist and his trio with a horn legend who remains as receptive to and excited about the music as ever. "I love this process and the ensuing bond that develops so quickly when jazz musicians interact," says Liebman. That bond is evident all over Glimpses, which brims with lyrical melodies, surprising harmonics, fantastic solos, and masterful horn playing.” [Keith Oxman with Dave Liebman in Glimpses, Republic of Jazz]
