Blog Name: Jazz In The Night TuesdayAuthor: Vince Outlaw , Social Media Marketing ManagerPosted on: October 2, 2017
On the Tuesday, October 3, 2017 installment of Jazz In The Night Tuesday (Weekly, Midnight to 2 AM PT), the music of Monk in the centennial month of his birth, October,1917, which is also our Fall Fundraising Month, inspires tunes featuring our special October 10, 2017 concert artist Joshua White (on Russell Bizzett's "Dream Street"), Monk interpreters Mike Clark, and John Beaseley's MONK'estra. Also, I feature music from artists making their way to San Diego (Ramsey Lewis), celebrating birthday anniversaries (Mike Clark, Bebo Valdes, Eddie Gomez, Aaron Parks, Abdullah Ibrahim), the upcoming week on the San Diego Jazz and Blues Scene (Robin Henkel at Blues Jam, Alex Ciavarelli at Handlery) and upcoming Jazz and Blues Birthdays and On This Day in Jazz Milestones (Billie records "Lover Man") and more! LISTEN LIVE or Replay Jazz In The Night Tuesday any day of the week from the Jazz 88.3 Speakeasy!

  • ON THIS DAY IN JAZZ #OTD (Wednesday) October 4 - Billie Holiday records "Lover Man" for Decca records in 1944.

  • Lover Man [Wikipedia]: “ It is particularly associated with Billie Holiday, for whom it was written, and her version was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1989.[2] Holiday's version reached #5 on the R&B chart and #16 on pop in 1945.”

10/03/17  01:13 AM - Aaron Parks - Find The Way - ECM - Melquiades

  • BIRTHDAY (Saturday) October 7 - Aaron Parks 10/07/1983 100 [Piano] Seattle, WA

  • Aaron Parks / Ben Street / Billy Hart: Find The Way [AllAboutJazz.com Review, Karl Ackermann]: “Parks expressed his awareness of the ECM aesthetic, and at points looked to emulate that increasingly broader sensibility. The music certainly fits in the label's eclectic catalog nicely but because Parks is not given to over-the-top drama, the simplicity and polish in Find the Way demands closer attention to appreciate some thorny time signatures and moody textures. Parks proves that classic lyricism need not be played out as a relic of the past.”
