STELLA BASS – “TOO DARN HOT”

  • Vocalist from Ireland, doing standards and jazz tunes.
  • AllAboutJazz.com - Stella Bass: Too Darn Hot (2014)
    • Singer Stella Bass is a stalwart of Dublin's live music scene, leading small jazz ensembles and collaborating with the HotHouse Big Band and the Dublin City Jazz Orchestra. Bass's debut jazz recording follows Smoke and Sound (Self Produced 2010), her cabaret tribute to Kurt Weil, Bertold Brech, Marlene Dietrich et al.
    • Too Darn Hot just confirms what jazz aficionados in Dublin already know—Bass is a class act.

LORI BELL QUARTET – “BROOKLYN DREAMIN”

HANNAH BURGÉ – “GREEN RIVER SESSIONS”

KENNY BURRELL – “THE ROAD TO LOVE”

  • Legendary guitarist, recorded live, with Barbara Morrison guesting on 3 tracks.\
  • Audiophile Audition - Kenny Burrell – The Road to Love – High Note
    • The occasion for this trio to work together was a 2010 concert that celebrated violinist Jean-Luc Ponty's 50th anniversary as a recording artist.
    • Jazz guitar heaven is keeping a warm seat ready for Kenny Burrell. If we’re lucky it’ll be quite awhile before that time happens.

STANLEY CLARKE / BIRELI LAGRENE / JEAN-LUC PONTY – “D-STRINGZ

  • All-star trio, performing a straight-ahead mix of tunes.
  • AllMusic.com (Thom Jurek) - D-Stringz
    • The occasion for this trio to work together was a 2010 concert that celebrated violinist Jean-Luc Ponty's 50th anniversary as a recording artist.
    •  D-Stringz is the sound of musical invention and delight put on offer directly. It is a thoroughly enjoyable listening experience.

JOEY DeFRANCESCO – “TRIP MODE”

  • Organist, performing mostly straight-ahead originals.

SCOTT DuBOIS – “WINTER LIGHT”

  • Guitarist, leading a quartet, in an edgy session.

MOTOR CITY JAZZ OCTET – “BEYOND WORDS”

  • Large ensemble, performing a straight-ahead mix of tunes.
UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS 1:00 LAB BAND – “LAB 2015”

  • Big band session from one of the top College bands.
  • Website: Established in 1946, Six Grammy nominations (and counting!) Multitudes of great composers, performers, and educators all throughout the music world. Over 60 recordings and a tradition that just keeps swingin'...

HOUSTON PERSON – “SOMETHING PERSONAL”

  • Sax legend, leading a quintet/sextet, performing a straight-ahead mix of tunes, just in time for his birthday.

CHESTER THOMPSON – “SIMPLER TIMES”

  • Drummer, leading a trio, in a straight-ahead session, featuring a variety of songs.

DAVE WILSON QUARTET – “THERE WAS NEVER”

  • Saxophonist, with a straight-ahead, sometimes edgy, session of mostly originals.
  • MICHAEL DOHERTY'S MUSIC LOG: The opening track, “The Time Has Come,” begins with an interesting rhythm, and soon Dave Wilson’s saxophone is soaring and shouting above it. It feels like bordering on chaos at moments, but I love the glorious relentless energy of this one, with leads on saxophone and then on piano, the drums continuing to rumble wildly throughout.
