Jazz music is alive and well and showing it's worldwide inspirations and influences in the 20 new releases being added to the Jazz 88.3 Music Library the week of June 1, 2015. And there are several local connections with vocalist Gillian Margot ("Black Butterfly") having performed in San Diego back in April 2015 (and making an appearance on The New Jazz Thing back in November 2014) and Trifolia ("Le Refuge") performing this coming June 12 at the La Jolla AthenaeumYour Jazz 88.3 hosts will be introducing you to these new releases all week, so Listen Long, Often, and LIVE at 88.3 FM San Diego and Worldwide at Jazz88.org!  You can check out the debut of all the new releases each week on The New Jazz Thing with Vince Outlaw, Monday evenings 6-8pm PT.

    • "Friday, June 12, brings a California debut by the Quebec-based Marianne Trudel Trifolia trio, featuring Marianne Trudel on piano, accordion, and voice; Étienne Lafrance on bass; and Patrick Graham on percussion. Trudel has been called “the hottest young pianist on the Montréal jazz scene” by Canada’s The Globe and Mail, having been frequently featured on the city’s international jazz festival, one of the world’s most prestigious jazz events. Her group Trifolia features original compositions that combine the influences of jazz, romantic music, and global rhythms, including the rich folk heritage of Quebec. The trio’s album Le Refuge was the winner of the Prix Opus 2012–2013 for jazz CD of the year. The Ottawa Citizen wrote, “If Trudel’s not one to follow the more usual jazz-tune structures to the letter, her way of doing things is remarkably accessible."
