Welcome to the Sunday, March 12, 2017 installment of The Jazz 88 Round Up on KSDS San Diego’s Jazz 88.3 and Jazz88.org. I’m Vince Outlaw and on this week’s round-up, we’ll recap the past week in jazz, including the Athenaeum Music and Arts hosted music at their Art Center at Bread and Salt in Barrio Logan AND shared their upcoming concert series at the TSRI Hall on Torrey Pines with us at Jazz 88.3. Our partners at Cafe Bar Europa featured a San Diego Blues Club Caravan preview, and we shared a 2007 Jazz Live San Diego interview with Dave Valentin as we mourned his passing this past Wednesday, March 8. We also preview the upcoming week in San Diego Jazz and Blues, including The Dave Pell Octet at the Saville Theater for Jazz Live San Diego, what you can expect to hear on your favorite Jazz and Blues station next week, including the new Artist of the Week, and a look ahead a little further into our Jazz and Blues future...it’s all coming up, so Let’s Get On With The Round UP…. |Cafe Bar Europa in Pacific Beach, presents "From Jazz to Blues: A Night to Remember," THIS SATURDAY, March 11, featuring traditional gospel vocalist Carmelia Toot Bell with special guest, violinist Jamie Shadowlight, backed by Jazzilia: Fred Hardy on bass, with Aaron Pratts on trumpet, Ray Roeder on piano; and Casper Padulan on drums. The evening will include a special guest appearance by young vocalist, Valerie Smith. Dancing is encouraged; admission is $10 and includes a drink of your choice. The 26th Annual San Diego Music Awards
will take place at House of Blues TONIGHT!
Doors open at 6PM
, with a pre-show TV taping of Tonight in San Diego! Proceeds from the San Diego Music Awards help to purchase guitars for San Diego County schools, via a partnership between the San Diego Music Foundation
and El Cajon's Taylor Guitars
. Over the life of the program, 2,978 guitars have been placed into 85 schools from San Onofre to San Ysidro and over 55,000 K-12 students have been impacted by the program. It's going to be a great night in San Diego, so mark your calendars! To purchase tickets, or for more information, click here

|Last Sunday, February 12, 2017, as the music world gathered to celebrate the 59th Grammy Awards, the news of the passing of the multi-Grammy award winning vocalist Al Jarreau was announced. The passing impacted the Jazz 88.3 staff and San Diego Jazz community at large in many ways. Here are a few of the postings and remembrances...|
