The Ira B Liss Big Band's new disc "It's About Time" is out now and they have a CD release party coming up, so we'll be chatting with band leader Ira B Liss and arranger of 5 of the tunes on the disc, Chris Braymen, on The New Jazz Thing @Jazz88 with Vince Outlaw, Monday 6-8PM PT, August 12, 2013 (they'll be on in Hour 2 of The New).
The 2013 San Diego Music Award nominees were announced today and the winners will be presented on Wednesday, October 9, 2013. It is great to see lots of musicians supported by and played on Jazz 88 in the list, including Jazz Live San Diego alum (Gilbert Castellanos, Bill Magee Blues Band, Michelle Lundeen, Candye Kane, Sue Palmer, Euphoria Brass Band, Rob Thorsen, Joshua White, Danny Green, Mike Wofford, Steph Johnson) and other Jazz 88 interview guests (all of the above and Gregory Page, Wayne Riker). Additionally, it's really cool to have Jazzer Gilbert Castellanos nominated in the Artist of the Year and Best Live Band. And the cherry on top of it for all of us involved in San Diego Jazz is the announcement that Daniel Jackson will be receiving this year's Lifetime Achievement Award (and that's 2 for 2 for jazzers with Mike Wofford receiving the 2012 award). The public gets to vote for the 'Genre Categories' (e.g. Best Jazz) until September 16, 2013, so make your vote known!
