John D’Agostino’s addition to the Jazz88 team might be a fulfillment of lineage. Before he was born, his dad, a Big Band-era bandleader, moved the family from New York to San Diego, where he hosted jams with the likes of Nat King Cole and Frankie Laine. John started playing drums at seven and dreamed of being the next Buddy Rich — until he saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. At 15, he drummed in a popular rock band, but snuck into 21-and-up jazz clubs. John played piano in a jazz trio while pursuing a music minor at SDSU, switching back to drums after graduation to form a progressive-rock band. He’s been a composer, producer, songwriter, record store owner, and music journalist. |
