Seth McFarlane, the brilliant writer, actor, illustrator, voiceover artist and comedic mind behind Family Guy, Ted, The Orville, and A Million Ways to Die in the West, also happens to be a wonderful vocal interpreter of American popular song.
He's just released Lush Life: The Lost Sinatra Arrangements (Verve), an album of tunes originally arranged for Frank Sinatra by Nelson Riddle, Billy May, and Don Costa, but never previously recorded. Check out Friedwald's recent post on the project here.
With the permission of Tina Sinatra, Frank's youngest daughter and the steward of the Sinatra library, McFarlane recorded (and recently released) a dozen of these arrangements backed by a 70-piece orchestra led by British conductor John Wilson. The result is nothing short of epic and, as McFarlane told Variety, the charts are "really high musical art."
