Jazz 88ers,
KSDS is facing an emergency, and we need your help. You already know the broad strokes. Federal funding’s gone. More specifically, we will be without $200,000 we were relying on to operate. We still need it; it's just not coming.
This "Now's the Time" campaign is not a membership drive. Membership drives are doctor’s visits you make even when you’re well, to stay well. This is more akin to emergency surgery… without insurance.
It feels like David versus Goliath. But you, our members, are our secret weapon, our slingshot. It’s your generosity that, over the last 50-plus years, has afforded us the miraculous ability to bring you the music that the marketplace — commercial radio and TV — will never deem financially viable. Now we call on you in our time of most urgent need.

The award-winning programming on KSDS spans the reach of jazz’s expansive sonic spectrum by providing a launchpad for rising, upcoming artists, while foregrounding the foundational artists of classic jazz’s golden age. With so much competition for your entertainment dollar, we aim – whether through our on-air programming or our live events in the community – to offer something substantial. Something more than empty calories just passing through. Something necessary for a nourished soul.
Help save what we do here at KSDS. For us.

Tuneful music of melody, harmony, and rhythm that is greater than the sum of its parts, amplifying the triumphs and troubles of our shared past and present and proving over and over again that individual creative expression and teamwork aren’t irreconcilable concepts, but actually better together – like the intellect and soul. We need to be greater than the sum of our parts now. Help save what we do here.
And for you.

As the only public media outlet in San Diego devoted solely to music — and one of the last remaining public radio stations in the country devoted entirely to jazz and the blues — we depend on our membership for support. Now more than at any point in recent memory. Your support is our operational lifeblood; it is our bulwark against constantly shifting trends in boutique political fashions.
Sincerely,
Matt Silver
