Federal Funding for Public Radio: A Potential Threat to KSDS Jazz 88

KSDS Jazz 88, San Diego’s only full-time straight-ahead jazz station, is closely monitoring developments out of Washington, D.C. that could affect the future of public broadcasting. President Trump signed an executive order directing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), the agency that helps support more than 1,500 public radio and TV stations across the country, including KSDS, to rescind previously approved funding for PBS and NPR.

At this time, no final decisions have been made, and the executive order does not automatically go into effect without congressional approval. However, it is possible that there could be moves to completely defund the CPB in the near future. If enacted, it could have serious implications for stations like ours that rely on CPB grants to help sustain essential services.
