The Medal Round: Canada, The Netherlands, and Cuba

The Medal Round: Canada, The Netherlands, and Cuba

The inaugural KSDS Jazz Olympiad ends here. Which nation will stand atop the medal podium?

Pianist Ralph Sutton and his quartet recorded this album (cover pictured above) specifically for the 1960 Winter Olympics at Squaw Valley. Sixty-six years later, the games and the music still go hand in hand…with the inaugural KSDS Jazz Olympiad!

And then there were three. The people have spoken…and of the dozen nations included in our inaugural Jazz Olympiad, only three remain: Canada, The Netherlands, and Cuba.

Not necessarily the betting favorites…but, most importantly, your favorites!

Each nation has scored big wins on the way to the medal podium. But now there’s still one last critical choice for you to make. Who deserves the gold?

Can Canada salvage a win in the Jazz Olympiad after losing out on gold in both women's and men's ice hockey?!

Is there more to Dutch supremacy than just speed skating?

Or will Cuba ride the intoxicating power of clave to impose a gold medal embargo on its Canadian and Dutch counterparts?

It’s your choice — an enormous responsibility, we understand. But we’re here to help. We’ll be featuring selections from your favorite Canadian, Dutch, and Cuban musicians all day long.

The top vote-getter will win the gold, second gets the silver, and third gets the bronze. It’s genius. We’ll play the music, and you decide where each will stand on the medal podium.

Today’s the day. It’s the gold medal round of the inaugural KSDS Jazz Olympiad. Vote early and often at jazz88.org/vote.
