Tommy Emmanuel will grace the stage at Balboa Theatre in the heart of downtown, TONIGHT! The two-time Grammy nominee has a professional career that spans over four decades and continues to intersect with some of the finest musicians throughout the world. A household name in his native Australia, Tommy has garnered hundreds of thousands of loyal fans worldwide with his unique style – he calls it simply “finger style” – akin to playing guitar the way a pianist plays piano, using all ten fingers. Our first Jazz Live of 2016 (TONIGHT) is officially SOLD OUT--and it will no doubt, be a very special one--a Bill Evans tribute and west coast documentary premiere of Time Remembered. An all-star trio (with pianist, John Campbell, bassist, Darek Oles and drummer, Duncan Moore) playing. Even though tonight's concert is SOLD OUT, you can listen to the live broadcast on 88.3fm or via our stream here on the website. If you are attending tonight don't forget to arrive for the documentary. Check out the film (6:30p start) and attend the pre-concert talk with the filmmaker and Bill's son, Evan Evans. Jazz 88.3 is joining all Frank Sinatra fans in celebration of the Chairman of the Board's Centennial (100th birthday)! In fact, we'll be hosting a tour of Ol Blue Eyes' favorite haunts in the desert, along with a concert and party at his house, located in the heart of beautiful Palm Springs! It's all happening TODAY and YOU can join us! Just make a $235 (per-ticket) contribution to your favorite Jazz and Blues radio station and you’ll be all set! Here's all the details—simply give us a call before noon at 562-619-1101 to make your reservation. The bus headed to Palm Springs leaves City College (Lot 1) at 1:30PM.

The Bad Plus came together at the end of the 20th century and has avoided easy categorization ever since, winning critical hosannas and a legion of fans worldwide with their creativity, unique sound and flair for live performance. Based in New York City, the intensely collaborative trio has constantly searched for rules to break and boundaries to cross, bridging genres and techniques while exploring the infinite possibilities of three exceptional musicians working in perfect sync. Yet again they continue to explore myriad musical forms born of jazz along with any sonic source that forwards music that is uniquely The Bad Plus. Tonight's Jazz Live for 8pm is SOLD OUT!! Due to high demand we have added a second performance at 9pm. Disclaimer: If you have not been contacted by us recently and reserved your tickets for the 8pm show (or made a pledge during the recent membership drive that entitled you to the pre-concert party) you are all set. If you would like to make a reservation for the 9pm show you can do so by calling 619-388-3037 by 4pm. We look forward to celebrating the holidays with this rare live performance of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn's Jazz version of the Nutcracker Suite at the Saville Theatre. Don't forget to print your parking pass and present it on your dash the night of the show. We look forward to ending our year with this special concert.
