Jazz 88.3 presents "Drop Me Off In Harlem," a Black History month film screening happening TONIGHT from 7-9PM at the Saville Theatre. This is your chance to enjoy 2-hours of rare film, footage from the stars of the Cotton Club, The Savoy Ballroom, Minton's Playhouse and other legendary New York Venues. Featured performers include Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Cab Calloway, Miles Blue Rhythm Band and lots more! Admission is FREE(!).
For his recent concert at UCSD’s Loft, pianist Danny Green augmented his usual trio-mates, bassist Justin Grinnnell and drummer Julian Cantelm, with three other stellar San Diego musicians – reedman Tripp Sprague, percussionist Mark Lamson and vocalist Leonard Patton.
Danny Green is a gifted keyboardist and an equally gifted composer. His recent recordings include most, if not all, of his own compositions, and several of those works made it to the set list at the Loft, along with offerings from Michael Jackson, Djavan and Stevie Wonder.
The Gary Peacock Trio will grace San Diego with their talent and presence THIS Saturday, February 13th at 7:30PM as part of the Athenaeum's Jazz @ TSRI series! This rare West Coast appearance featuring Peacock on bass, Marc Copland on piano, and Joey Baron on drums will be one for the books! Heralded worldwide for the past 32 years as the bassist in the landmark Keith Jarrett Trio, Peacock celebrates his 80th birthday this year with a special tour and CD release. He stopped by the Jazz 88.3 studios and chatted with Afternoon Jazz host Ron Dhanifu (Mon-Fri, 1-4pm PT) before his appearance at the monthly Jazz 88.3 Happy Hour at The Lafayette Hotel on Thursday, February 4, 2016.
