|An All-Star Trumpet Summit heads to the Saville Theatre for Jazz Live on June 28th. The horns include Bobby Shew, Chuck Findley, Steve Huffsteter and Ron Stout. The rhythm section is also stellar- Mike Wofford (p), Dean Hulett (b) and Duncan Moore (dr). Tonight's show is SOLD OUT but if you get to the saville at 7:30p there's a chance you can get some unreleased tickets. When you arrive for the show be sure to display your parking pass. |

, is distinctively considered as the pinnacle of modern Cuban bass and renowned by many as the pioneer bassist of the Timba style. Feliciano has worked with musical titans such as Emiliano Salvador, Chucho Valdés, David Murray, and Maraca. Eugenio, on drums
, is a conservatory professor of Cuban percussion, and for over 20 years served as percussionist for prestigious singer Pablo Milanés. Ignacio, on guitar
, played for over ten years in the Tropicana club in Cuba with Giraldo Piloto and Paquito de Rivera. Cristina, on vocals
, is their lead singer. The band plays a variety of songs from traditional Cuban Son to modern Cuban Timba, all written by or re-arranged by Feliciano. They'll be performing songs from the new album: "Llego la Amistad"--you simply won't want to miss it!

|Jazz 88.3 is proud to be a supporter of the 14th Annual UCSD Jazz Camp, happening June 19th-25th! Jazz Camp at UCSD is a five-day summer program designed for intermediate to advance-level jazz musicians, ages 14-adult. Students will work directly with faculty and internationally renowned jazz artists, exploring styles ranging from classic, to bebop, to contemporary open-form. Students receive one-on-one and small group instruction. Together, Jazz 88. and UCSD are offering a full-tuition scholarship for (1) adult and (1) youth. The deadline to apply for each scholarship is Wednesday, May 18th. And, be sure to mention KSDS - Jazz 88.3 when you apply! (Please note: Scholarships do not include room and board). |Duke Ellington's 117th birthday was celebrated with a special film presentation and a concert by the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts (SDSCPA) Jazz Ensemble on Friday, April 29, 2016 at San Diego City College's Saville Theater. The event was a special celebration as it was a final performance by the SDSCPA Jazz Ensemble as they prepare to represent San Diego as 1 of only 15 ensembles in North America to compete in the Essentially Ellington competition in New York City, May 5-7, 2016. |

|Jazz Live in May will be bringing a Grammy-nominated drummer, composer and producer to the Saville Theatre TONIGHT at 8pm. Gerry Gibbs is one of the hottest jazz artists around these days and Jazz 88.3 is thrilled to have him and his Thrasher Quartet (featuring Rob Hardt on flute/clarinet) to the Saville Theatre. This will be a special night because Gerry will be leading his band through Jazz interpretations of R&B classics. If you are a valid Jazz 88 member you can reserve your tickets in the Speakeasy. As always, use that parking pass. |
|Some of the best of San Diego Jazz, including The Matt Smith Neu Jazz Trio, Euphoria Brass Band, and Gilbert Castellanos will be featured at Jazz On Tap, Saturday, April 30, 2016, a benefit for Water For People, a charity working to bring safe drinking water and sanitation to developing countries around the world. Matt Smith and Euphoria's Drew Miller (also host of Jazz 88.3's Second Line Parade, Saturday 7-8pm PT) dropped by Afternoon Jazz with Claudia on Friday, April 29, 2016 to chat about the event and the state of San Diego Jazz. The June Membership Drive is HAPPENING NOW and it's offering a trip to Cork, Ireland to attend the Cork Jazz Festival in October. This is one of the world's major jazz festival and you can be there along side our esteemed Morning Jazz host, Gary Beck.
