March 16th in Jazz History…
- Miles Davis and his quintet cut "Veird Blues" for Prestige Records in 1956. This session marked the last studio date with Sonny Rollins and the only recording pianist Tommy Flanagan made with Miles.
- This session also produced “In Your Own Sweet Way”, and “No Line”.
- Andy Kirk and electric guitarist Floyd Smith record "Floyd's Guitar Blues" in 1939 for Decca Records.
- The Stan Kenton orchestra recorded "I Feel Pretty" in 1961 in Hollywood.
- And on sad note.....guitarist Aaron "T-Bone” Walker died on this day in California in 1978.
- Organist Hank Marr died on this date in 2004 in Columbus, Ohio. He was 77.
