- Miles Davis first records "When Lights Are Low", "Tune Up", "Miles Ahead" and "Smooch" with John Lewis, Charles Mingus, Percy Heath and Max Roach. The year was 1953.
- Fletcher Henderson & his orchestra recorded "Sugar Foot Stomp" for Columbia records in 1925 in New York.
- Sarah Vaughan cuts "Mean To Me" for Columbia Records in 1950.
- One of the great ones, saxophonist Coleman Hawkins died in New York City in 1969. He was 64.
