KSDS will be celebrating a different kind of President today.  Join us as we salute the "PREZ," Lester Young. We will play his music throughout the day focusing on the different periods of his illustrious career. And, at Noon, Loren Schoenberg, one of the foremost experts on Lester Young, will delve deep into Lester's career. There will be rare recordings, clips, interviews, and, of course, music. KSDS gets Prezidential- beginning at 7am.

Martin Luther King Jr. believed that Jazz was the soundtrack to the Civil Rights era. He loved Jazz and appreciated its cultural significance and its connection to his dream. Tune in to KSDS-FM and Jazz88.org ALL DAY as we celebrate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

 

 Music related to the civil rights movement will be heard all day- Max Roach's "Freedom Now, We Insist," Oliver Nelson's "Black, Brown and Beautiful" and Sonny Rollins' "Freedom Suite," to name a few as well as commentary from San Diego resident and Jazz Legend, Charles McPherson and other historical vignettes.

Holly Hofmann's jazz series continues this month at Tio Leo's Restaurant and Lounge at 5302 Napa St. at Morena Blvd. Jazz at Tio Leo's is happening every Sunday evening from 5-7pm and features Southern California's finest jazz musicians in a quiet, spacious setting with full bar and Mexican cuisine. There is also plenty of free parking. See this month's schedule below:

Jazz 88.3 has partnered again with Camarada. Join Camarada for an evening that explores the wide range of tango from the 1900’s all the way to an exciting world premiere of Tango Bajo el Agua by Andrés Martín. "The Essence of Tango" will be performed on Saturday, February 4th at 7:30PM at the Conrad (7600 Fay Ave.) in La Jolla.

Since forming in 2014, The War and Treaty, 2022 Americana Music Awards’ Duo of the Year, have amassed a following as eclectic as their sound itself, a bluesy but joyful fusion of Southern soul, gospel, country, and rock-and-roll.
